Our Process
Application Process
The first step to bringing home a Sandollar Aussie is the application process. Depending on how far out our plans are, we will open up the waitlist to start accepting applications for our next litter. Upon acceptance, you will hear back from us with any and all information we currently have about the pairing. We do not take deposits at this stage. We may periodically reach out as plans start to finalize to keep you updated and make sure you are still interested.
The Breeding - 4 months out to take home day
After our puppy parents have successfully done the deed, we will reach out to everyone still on the waitlist to let them know the clock has finally started. At this point, it will take about 4 months before puppies are ready to go home. Once we hear confirmation that you are still interested we will send our contract out for you to read over and make sure you agree to all the terms and conditions. These can all be adjusted as needed.
Ultrasound - 3 months out
About 28 days after the breeding, we will take mom in for an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy and estimate the number of puppies. Of course at this point, gender and color will still be unknown so homes are not guaranteed. Although the ultrasound is normally a pretty good estimate on the number of puppies, there is always the possibility of more or less being born. We will reach out to everyone again at this point letting them know the news.
Puppies are here! - 2 months out
Precisely 63 days after breeding, our cuties will arrive! We will contact those still on the list with all the genders and colors in the litter and will have a much better idea on who will get a puppy. However, puppies will need to be evaluated at 7 weeks old for conformation show quality as well as temperaments before we can promise exactly which puppy will go where. We suggest following us on Instagram to see real time photos and videos as they grow up.
4-5 weeks old - 1 month out
By now all the puppies will have received ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation), tails and dew claws removed, initial worming, introductions to food and potty training as well as all sorts of exciting sights, sounds, and toys! At this point we conduct the first house visit for you to meet the puppies, mother, and myself. We do request that whoever comes to our house visit does not go to any dog parks, vet offices, pet stores, or locations that may have high canine traffic earlier that day. We also ask that shoes are removed before coming in and hands are washed before touching the puppies. They have not received any vaccinations protecting them yet! At this point, we will request a $500 deposit electronically or via cash during the visit.
7 weeks old - 1 week out
At 7 weeks old we will do our formal evaluations for show, performance, and companion quality which also includes temperament testing. We will finally be able to guarantee you a specific puppy. YAY! We ask that you start thinking about registered names since we will go through this process at pick up and it will need to be approved. Call names are completely up to you of course! (Call names are what you name your puppy like "Buddy" for example and registered names are longer multi-word phrases starting with my kennel name, Sandollar, that go on the official AKC registered papers such as "Sandollar's My Best Friend")
8-9 weeks old - Take home day!
Puppies will receive their first round of vaccinations along with a veterinary exam at 8 weeks old. After that, they are ready to go home! When you come to pick up your puppy, you will receive our puppy pack with all sort of items and information. We will go through our Aussie owner manual which will outline vaccinations schedules, socialization, crate training, etc. This will also be sent via e-mail prior to pick up. We will register your puppy online with AKC which will be about $35 with a credit card. Final payment will also be at this time which is required to be in cash. After that, it's time to get your little one home and settle in!
Resources
I always love to be there to help along the way so I will be a great resource for any questions you may have. I have made multiple amazon lists about puppy products and grooming tools on my products page. Additionally, I have grooming videos on my YouTube as well as on the videos page. I'm also available for grooming lessons when they get older.
